The Seaton Chess Club Christmas Social event took place on Wed 21st Dec 2022. Despite a slight initial hitch with the building not being open(!) the event was very well attended with 16 players. There was plenty of food and drink and a fun handicap blitz tournament was the main event of the evening. The handicap was based on the difference in opponent ratings and the higher rated player lost 1 point for every 100 points of rating difference. This means there were some extreme differences (more than a queen in some cases!) which really levelled the playing field.
The tournament was won decisively by Nicky Bacon with 7/7. Ian Gregory came 2nd with 5/7 and Graeme Wallace and Simon Polloni shared 3rd place with 4.5/5.
You can find all the results here.
Many thanks for Gill for providing the food and drink, Steve for the prizes and for Jon for doing the pairings!
The Club will reopen on Wed 4th January 2023 so hopefully see you there!
