Seaton Chess Club held its very first Rapidplay chess tournament in Axmouth Village Hall, Devon on Sat 16th September 2023.
This was a remarkable milestone in the club's history and only made possible through the kind support of Ray Hunt, one the club's long-standing members who sadly passed away this year. A unique trophy for the event was commissioned in his memory following the Jurassic theme and adapted from Orthoceras fossils.
The event was won by Patryk Krzyzanowski with 5.5/6. 2nd was local Seaton Chess Club member Paul Hampton with 5/6 and 3rd was Ian Thompson with 4.5/6.
You can find a full event report here.
It gives me great pleasure to reveal the Ray Hunt Memorial Trophy that will be presented to the winner of our 1st Jurassic Rapidplay tournament.
Ray sadly passed away this year so we have created this unique trophy in his memory. There is still time to enter the tournament that will take place on Saturday 16th September 2023 in Axmouth, Devon. See the box to the left for further details!
In the AGM on 16th August 2023, we decided to open for the next season on Wednesday 4th October 2023 in the usual location, 1st Floor of the Seaton Gateway.
It would be great if you could join us again for another exceptional season!
Before then of course is the 1st Jurassic Rapidplay on 16th September 2023 - so just a reminder that there are still spaces left for that competition. It would be great if we could get as much support for our first foray into running an event so hopefully see you all there!
Seaton's Gill Morgan has won this years Devon ladies championship, and event run by Devon County Chess Association and open to all female entries across the whole of Devon.
You can see one of the critical games in the tournament here. Gill won this game after some excellent play against a player rated 200 points above her!
Well done Gill!
